Installing Client/Server Based Applications

Lockwood's Asset Tracker, POManager, Stock Manager and Event Manager are client/server based tools in which the server (or database) resides on one computer and each client (or users' PC) is used to access the server. Given this configuration, the installation for each tool requires 2 steps - installing software on the server and then installing software on the client(s).

Server Installations

Server installations will load the system services necessary for Event Manager and Asset Tracker modules and load the main data repository program. If not already in place, the customer will need to obtain an Microsoft SQL Server 2005 license since the Lockwood modules use SQL relational database. This software installation is made on the server computer only. Note of the name of the server since this will be needed for the client installation(s). Lockwood recommends making a database back-up before applying any upgrades.

System requirements

  • See requirements for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Basic Standard Edition or higher.
  • 100MB available hard disk space for repository

Dependencies

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and a sufficient number of licenses to support the number of clients
  • MS Word 2003

Where to Install

  • On a computer accessible by all client PC's. Because the database resides on the server, access to this computer will be frequent.

Installation Instructions

  1. Choose the server executable (xxxServer.exe where xxx is the name of the product) from the appropriate folder created from the download. Follow the instructions on the screen changing any necessary information.
  2. When the installation is completed, verify that the database was created using SQL Server. There should be several tables and stored procedures for each program.
  3. Each client application requires access to specific files on the server. These files are stored in shared directories. If these folders are not shared the client will not be able to run the application. These folders are in a subdirectory of the installation path (usually C:\Progam Files\Lockwood Technology\application name\) NOTE: THIS STEP IS REQUIRED
    • The Asset Tracker shared folder is AT_COMMON
    • The PO Manager shared folder is POMgrServer
    • The Stock Manager folder is StockMgrServer

Client Installations

The client(s) should be installed on all workstations requiring access to the database.

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
  • Crystal Reports .NET Framework 2.0 (included in Lockwood's download)
  • Network access to the server
  • Windows XP Professional
  • 768 MB RAM minimum, 1GB RAM or higher recommended
  • 20 MB Available disk space
  • VGA Monitor or better

Dependencies

  • MSWord 2003
  • SQL Server 2005 Native Client
  • SQL Server 2005 Integration Services (if the Asset Tracker Interfaces option will be used)
  • Crystal Reports .NET 2.0 Framework (included in download, for running reports)
  • Crystal Reports XI if you are creating your own custom reports
  • Internet Explorer v5.5 or higher
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader for manuals

Where to Install

  • On all PC's requiring access to the server

Installation Instructions

  1. Choose the client executable (xxxClient.exe where xxx is the name of the product) from the appropriate folder created from the download.
  2. Once installation completes, start the application from the shortcut on the desktop. You will be prompted for the name of the server. Enter the name of the server. For new installations, a default Administrator account is created (User: Admin, Password: admin)
